Kristiana Kandere-Grzybowska has worked with cancer cell motility for a long time starting at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL, USA). Now she works in South Corea at Center for Soft and Living Matter, Institute for Basic Science (IBS) and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). 19-th July she gave a talk "Actin regulatory network in cancer cell motility" in the first scientific seminar of LU MBI.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Egils Stalidzans elected director at the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, University of Latvia

The leader of Biosystems group Egils Stalidzans will become director of Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology at University of Latvia from 1-st July 2016. The new position of Egils is a result of a long term collaboration between Biosystems group and the Institute since 2008. Egils Stalidzans continues to work also in reserach projects of Latvia UNiversity of Agriculture.

The nice weather in Riga welcomed our partners from the project "Control of Engineered Metabolism by Flowering and Temperature Triggered Plant Regulatory Networks" (SMARTPLANTS) funded under ERA-net ERASynBio. 

The participants were the project coordinator Alain Tissier and Tom Schreiber from  Leibnitz Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Philip Wigge from Sainsbury Laboratory at Cambridge University. Project progress in computational and experimental parts is assessed.

Agris Pentjuss defends doctoral theses

 The member of Biosystems Group of Latvia University of Agriculture and Computational Systems Biology group of Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology became Dr.sc.ing. Agris Pentjuss in early afternoon of 11-th March 2016. The discussion around theses "Stoichiometric models creation and analysis procedures for metabolic engineering" was touching both information technology and biology as it was expected in this interdisciplinary work. The published applications of the newly developed tools and algorithms were found very important proofs of applicability of Agris results. Message at the LUA website.

2-nd LEANPROT meeting in Tallinn

 Already in the fourth month of the project, LEANPROT partners met in Tallinn at Competence Center of Food and Fermentation Technologies (CCFFT). The meeting in the beginning of March 2016 was devoted to the coordination of Work Packages and modelling approaches in the project. Participants were split in several groups to have the most efficient progress. Egils Stalidzans, Agris Pentjuss and Rasa Muktupavela participated from Latvian side.

CHARME first meeting in Brussels

21-st March 2016 the first meeting of the COST-project "Harmonising standardisation strategies to increase efficiency and competitiveness of European life-science research" (CHARME). 

CHARME will increase the awareness for the need of standards, enabling the reuse of research data and its interoperability within the scientific community. CHARME will provide a common ground for researchers from academia, research institutes, SMEs and multinational organizations.

Leaders of the project and workgroups were elected. Plans for the first year of activities were drafted. Agris Pentjuss and Egils Stalidzans both are Latvian representatives in Managing Comitee.
